Behind the Scenes from my latest collaboration....
I was approached by Corey from Royal Photography AU to be his on shoot makeup artist for a whole weekend at a luxurious Air B&B home in South Perth. This was my first real photo shoot since I completed my makeup artist qualification almost 10 years ago and...... WOW!! It was so much fun. Beautiful woman, long lean bodies and luxurious hair are the words to describe the scene I was working in for the fun filled 2 days. Starting at 7:30 am on the first day I walked into a room set up with backdrops, lighting and cameras, all ready for the shoot, it was seriously like walking onto a movie set and I was loving it already. I set up my makeup kit and then had the beautiful Bella in my chair. Bella wanted some professional head shots so she can submit for future acting opportunities so I created a very natural and glowy makeup on her using Hourglass and Nars products. This look was more true to my bridal makeup style so it was a nice way to ease into the busy weekend ahead. Next up was the dynamite of Tahlia B who is a model and singer with her upcoming musical talents being released for summer 2018. I created a defined eye using Tarte eyeshadows and accented her pillow plump lips with a great currant nude colour, some Wasp false lashes completed the look. Then walked in the exotic Nicola and this girl was banging hot with no makeup. Nicola runs her own entertainment business and models in her spare time. I GHD curled her gorgeous long mane and Nicola requested a makeup style that opened up her smaller eyes. Starting with Nars sheer glow on the skin I then used a Ulta3 eye palette in Roses to create a plum coloured smokey eye with brown nude lips and Nars Orgasm blush on cheeks. A demi lash set helped open up the eyes by accenting and lifting the corners. I also helped out during the shoot with Corey, I got to put a flour handprint on Nicola's pert bottom for her nude chef cooking apron portion of the shoot. We had some cancellations from other models which was a shame but so there was lull and we had the chance to do more looks with Nicola who looked amazing doing her thing. The rest of the day was a blur as lots of people came through the door and I had Jenna and Erica in my chair. Jenna was young and shy and wanted to get into modelling so wanted some photos to start out. Jenna had a look like Cara Delevingne so I accented her brows and highlighted her blue eyes. Erica then hopped straight in the chair and wanted to create a calendar for her husband and show of her fit physique. Erica told me about her bikini comps and how hard she trains to look as chiselled as she does. I highlighted Erica's baby blues with light rosy pinks and greys. A swipe of pink lipstick completed the look for this fit blonde lady. I didn't manage get great photos of these two ladies as the day light had gone but I am positive Corey from Royal Photography AU took some fabulous shots of them. My first day complete and I went home to wash brushes and get ready for the next big day. Day two and I had the honest and fun Cassie in my chair. Hardworking and knowledgeable Cassie was old hand at photo shoots and taught me a lot! She wasn't afraid to tell me where I wasn't hitting the mark and how others achieve this. Mostly I learnt that like anything in life I need to practice, practice, practice. Cassie had amazing burgundy coloured hair and big green eyes. I chose a defined eye with bronze shimmer and demi lashes and lashings of black eyeliner. A nude lip with her own gloss over the top completed the look. Cassie was so fab in front of the lens and I took some great behind the scenes shots of her in action during the shoot. We also took time to take a selfie or two. Some more models came through the the afternoon but they had done their own make ups as that what they prefer it was a shame to miss out on painting these individual faces but hopefully we might get to work together another time. Last but not least in my chair I had the fabulous Shae and her amazing face shape with those bang bang green eyes! I knew I was doing Shae's makeup and I admit it was the look I was most looking forward to creating before the weekend began. Shae has a shaved head so her face is the standout feature of her look. I had thought this look through since way before the shoot and I feel the final look really showed that. I created glowy skin using Becca opal highlighter liquid and Nars sheer glow. I then used a Nyx wine colour on the lips, Nars Laguna contour under cheekbones, Hourglass Ambient palette to highlight cheeks, Tarte Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette on eyes followed by lots of black eyeliner and big false lashes. I was most proud of the look I created on Shae and she looked phenomenal. My confidence was restored after questioning myself in the middle of the day and I can't wait to see how her images turned out!! This weekend I learnt... That Perth creatives (models, photographers, makeup artists) can be a very kind, knowledgeable and supportive bunch. Practice makes great work and it also enforced that good preparation can create better looks. Models are not skinny they are lean. Always be open to learning and making new friends. Give new things a go. Working together towards a common goal is very rewarding. I loved the opportunity I was given to participate in the Royal Photography AU photo shoot weekend as their makeup artist and I can't wait to plan and create on future collaborations with all that were involved. Would you like to be part of a photo shoot? Let me know your ideas and we can work towards creating a look that you and the camera will love.... xoxo B Thanks so much to the following people for working with us on the day.
