THE DAY OF THE PEEL
17 Nov 2016 - DMK 6 Layer Peel is applied at 9am
Stinging and burning sensation whilst the layers are applied, the therapist fans your face as it gets very hot and uncomfortable. The therapist keeps applying till the solution doesn't seep in anymore. You leave the solution on till the next day. I leave the salon with a giant hat on but can't wear sunglasses. I go home and stay indoors and try to relax but it hurts and it's uncomfortable. The only relief I get is when the sun goes down and it seems to stop the burning sensation slightly.
Sleep doesn't really happen as I'm worried it will ruin the peel by rubbing it off.
18 Nov 2016 - I shower and cleanse off the product with water only and I am very patchy and dark. The areas of pigment are the darkest patches.
I feel no real discomfort, it's a little tight and I feel very unattractive. I had to attend a funeral and was told not to put makeup over my skin to let it do its thing so I looked a fright but I wore a big hat and glasses and braved it as the funeral was important. I did wear moisturiser and sunscreen and must drink 4 litres of water.
In the evening it has tightened immensely and is quite unpleasant. I can't eat it's so tight and I am feeling a little annoyed. I want to pick at it but I know I'm not allowed to as it can scar new skin underneath.
19 Nov 2016 - I shower and cleanse with water only, pat dry with towel and avoid pulling the skin. Darkness, patchiness in tone and tightness as usual but slightly relieved as the peeling has started around the mouth area to release some of the pressure. It basically feels as though my face is too plump for its skin and is trying to burst from the inside outwards. Drinking my water and applying products as prescribed. Not allowed to pull the peeling skin but really want to as it hangs off the face and is visible in my line of sight.
20 Nov 2016 - Lots more tightness and peeling around the cheek areas now. Where the dead skin has peeled on my chin I have some angry red pimples in a cluster they are oozing and very sore and angry in red colour. I am sad and concerned something has gone wrong. I feel that maybe I have made a mistake and created a problem harder to conceal than the pigment I had before. I am depressed and I was warned I could become that way about this time in the process so I try to take it in my stride.
21 Nov 2016 - I am over it and want it to finish. The new skin coming through is looking good except for the chin area. Call the therapist to ask about pimples and assured they are normal and some people get them all over the face so I am lucky with just one area. Still washing face in just water and applying products as prescribed. I will now use a DMK pimple treatment cream to help with the cluster.
Just wishing for the skin to peel away quicker so I can see results. I hate waiting!
22 Nov 2016 - Pimples have started to subside a bit and the skin is peeling as it should. I want to pick but I don't. Lots of fresh skin showing and looking good.
23 Nov 2016 - The peeling is nearing the pigmented areas and I so want to rip it off to see underneath. Some of the dead skin flaps and I can see no pigment underneath in the smaller patches so I am very excited. I have a lift off booked for the following day so I am hoping what lifts will expose fresh unpigmented skin underneath. I am doing positive affirmations daily to will a good result.
24 Nov 2016 - OMG the lift off has taken off most of the dead skin and the under eye pigment is gone! I am slightly red but there is no brown marks on the skin I the under eye area? I am so happy I could cry. Positively thrilled with my results so far.
25 Nov 2016 - Skin is looking amazing except for the pimply chin area which I am treating with DMK Actrol Powder to remove bacteria.
26 Nov 2016 - I wear makeup for the first time since and all is looking better, working on that cluster of pimples in the chin area still.
30 Nov 2016 - Second lift off Enzyme day and the pigment has returned slightly - I am very upset and the therapist reassures me that this is not my end result and the skin is rebuilding and will be for a few months so not to judge too soon.
I have lots of pimples that are confidence killing as well.
04 Dec 2016 - Pigment is lighter than before the peel but it's still there.
My skin is lovely and smooth and plump and my fine lines are gone so that is great.
My forehead which is always lined is looking smooth and plump.
I have since continued with a few treatments in salon but nothing has helped lift the pigment further. The staff at the salon were fantastic and supportive throughout the whole process and just as keen as me to get good results.
Overall I feel that the peel was not as beneficial in regards to my pigment as I would have hoped for the price. My pigment has returned and for that I am sad.
The pimple cluster on my chin is now completely gone and no scaring has remained.
On the positive I do feel my actual skin overall is fantastic and it feels like I have had a complete fresh start. My skin is plumper and healthier then ever and I definitely have a glow that others have noticed since.
I wear less makeup now and feel more confident with my skin.
I would suggest (after my experience) maybe not treating pigmentation with the 6 layer peel but if you feel like fresh glowing, plump skin all over then this peel is the way to go.
I will continue my quest for a pigmentation fix and I will keep you all posted with my progress and thoughts along my journey.
For now I continue to be the camouflage specialist so if you would like any information on how I cover my pigmentation then please let me know.
Have you tried a dramatic skin treatment and what was your experience?
