Getting cheeky with dermal filler...... On my 34th birthday in January, I had a long time friend and fabulous anti ageing injector (she is a nurse) give my forehead the freshen up it had needed since forever. Within a a few days I was sold!! Previously I would use an app on my iphone to smooth out my forehead in photos as I was so self conscious of how the lines looked. Hands down, wrinkle relaxer has been the best beauty treatment I have had for effectiveness and results you can actually see. Loving my look but keen to not go too far I resigned to just visiting every 3 months to have my forehead topped up. Enter the husband saying "you need to get a job or stop spending"!!!! So I applied for part time office jobs thinking something would come along soon..... Months later and no responses on the job front I was down and feeling very unwanted and over the hill (but not looking it yet.....haha) Anyhow I went for dinner with some fab friends and mentioned the job searching... One of the fellas put me directly in touch with a lady looking to hire a receptionist for a facial rejuvenation clinic... why had I never considered this before! Taking my love for the face, makeup, beauty and cosmetic treatments and putting it into a job. I sent my resume to her and hoped to hear back. And boy did I hear back I got an interview then offered the job and since starting I have loved every single day. I have learned so much already and my fondness for smoothness has grown and is verging on the edge of obsession. I began thinking of what else could be improved on my own face beyond my forehead. Enter cheekbones! On my first day after learning that as a product wrinkle relaxer type B is pretty much invisible to the naked eye, I mentioned to my boss that having cheeks was something I was keen on. Up until now I have relied heavily on my skills as a make up artist and using contouring to make it look like I had cheekbones, Nars Laguna was my cult buy and MVP of my morning makeup routine. Any way.....one month into the new job and my opportunity comes up with timings being just right for the Dr to give me some new cheek fillers. Hooray - I was nervous but super excited to try something new. Diary of my Cheekbones Day 1 - treatment day - I had two different types of dermal filler injected and administered via cannula to both sides of my face - in the cheek bone area. Pain level = 0-2 out of 10 - only small pinprick feelings where insertion points are. The filler has an anaesthetic in it so I had no pain until later that evening when I got some tightening in the areas injected. The doctor massaged the area to ensure the filler sat even and where needed. The effect is instant and I love it!! Can't stop looking in the mirror at my new definition. Rules for new dermal fillers Aim to keep the area as clean as possible, if told to massage - clean hands only Swelling is expected to be at its worst the first evening and following morning post procedure, for most it will last a couple of days but mild swelling can last up to 10 days. Sleep with an extra pillow the first few nights to avoid extra swelling. Avoid alcohol and exercise for 24-48 hours as this can prolong swelling and bruising Your injector will advise whether to start massaging 24 hours later, a good guide is to try to massage 4 times per day for 7 days. Night 1 - I sleep on my tummy so it was a rough night trying not to squash my face on the pillow - the filler can move for up to 48 hours after injection and so no rubbing etc is advised unless proper taught massage is applied. I feel a little tight in the area when I eat or when I crack a large smile. Day 2 - I can feel little bumps of filler but I was told this is normal. I'm swollen and I love how they look so I am worried when I am not swollen that there isn't enough in there. I can see some bumps but with massage these should smooth out. Some discomfort (tight feeling) in the area but nothing concerning. Not wearing makeup as I am scared to rub or pat area. Am a little tired as toddler was awake all night with a cough so I feel tender in general with no real sleep. Day 3 - headed to work to show the nurses and they suggest I massage slightly to avoid any lumpiness. I am still loving my look. Day 4 - work today and a chance to check in with the Dr that injected me. She is very happy with the result. She massages the area for me. The filler feels hard in my face and foreign to me but it looks so good and I've been told it will soften over the next week or so. I hope it does. I also feel like I could have had more put in, the Dr has a laugh and says a polite "No" and to wait a bit longer. Day 5 - heading to a friends wedding today and I'm loving my new cheeks so I can't wait to put my makeup on then define and highlight the cheek area. I take lots of selfies and my makeup looks great! These new cheeks have lifted my face and make me feel fresh and pretty. Hello new profile picture!! I have had many compliments since posting the photos of me at the wedding, family and some friends (who don't know what I had done) have said it's their favourite picture of me yet! And that I am looking the best they have seen me. I grin and say thanks keeping my new cheeks a secret to myself. 2 weeks since treatment and I can honestly say that my cheekbones are fabulous and I highly recommend them to anyone that had been considering having them done, but especially anyone feeling a bit less fresh after having kids or loosing weight. 4 weeks on and I still so happy with my cheeks and my choice to have them done, I got asked if I had lost weight on the weekend and have had lots of enquiries as to my fresh appearance. If you are considering dermal fillers or wrinkle relaxers - your best option is to book a free consultation with the Doctor or any of the Nurses at the clinic I work at and they will advise of the best options for your face, budget and lifestyle.
